The lottery for the group stage of UEFA EURO 2024 is conducted using a total of ten pots. Initially, participating countries are divided into four pots based on their performances in the qualification rounds. Since Germany is hosting the European Football Championship this time, the country did not need to qualify and is automatically placed in Pot 1.
In addition, six pots (A to F) with four balls each are used. These balls are numbered 1 to 4, representing the position a country takes within a group. Only the first pot contains three balls, as Germany automatically starts in the first position in Group A (A1).
During the draw, a country is successively drawn from the four pots, along with a number from the pot corresponding to the group. This process continues until all countries are assigned, and the six groups are filled.
